Rev. Maureen Cotton bio

Reverend Maureen Cotton is an Interspiritual minister, serving the spiritual-but-not-religious and non-dogmatic people of faith. Since ordination at One Spirit Interfaith Alliance in 2015, she has worked as a hospital chaplain and officiated countless weddings. Currently, she offers premarital spiritual guidance, ceremony design, and ceremony writing through her business The Soulful Wedding.

Expertise

  • Maureen is a leading thinker on ritual based on her experiences adapting religious ritual for her non religious couples and gendered wedding traditions for her LGBTQ couples.
  • Maureen is a gifted writer, composing in depth reflective narratives for her couples to use in their wedding ceremonies.
  • Maureen speaks frequently on the relationship between weddings and other rites of passages, especially death and grief. She expertly guides her couples in honoring their grief and deceased loved ones as part of their engagement and wedding.
  • Maureen uniquely addresses the “family drama” infamous in the wedding industry, compelling her couples to compassionately address important issues that come up while planning a wedding.
  • Maureen is an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ inclusivity in the wedding industry. She brings both a personal vantage point (being married to a woman) and a professional one (having seen the industry evolve in Massachusetts since marriage equality began there in 2003).
